It believed that in this way it would be able to impose Rome and perhaps Italy. On the other hand it also were instances where the two opponents cooperated to achieve common goals, or to work against a common enemy.

During 1400-1600 Venice and the Pope had turbulent relations. In this paper we examine all these under several perspectives.
